Know:
Know what apps your child is using. Some apps are designed to hide photos and other content.
Know youth aren't where you think they are online. Once you, a parent/ guardian, are on a social site (Facebook, Instagram), your child has already found a newer, hipper one.
Know who your child's friends are online.
Know how much time your child is spending on their device and apps or games.

Talk:
Talk with your child about internet safety and potential risks. Regular conversations can help you know what your child is doing and what apps they use.
Talk with your child calmly, as anger may cause your child to become defensive and less likely to share information with you.
Talk with your child about what the rules and consequences are when it comes to using devices and being online.

Teach:
Teach that there is nothing private on the internet. Pictures and posts can be saved and shared.
Teach your child about what is appropriate to post online and what it looks like to leave a positive digital footprint.
Teach your child about what to do if they encounter inappropriate content online or on a device. Model the behavior you want to teach your child



Protect:
Protect your child by having them set their profiles to private.
Protect your child by establishing & enforcing rules & consequences.
Protect your child by looking at activating safety settings & parental controls.

If you want to make any changes, please request them by scanning the QR code. Changes for current Grand Oaks students must be requested by 3 PM on Friday, April 3. Changes for current 8th graders at York must be requested by 3 PM on Friday, April 10.
